The Sixth Age: Age of Silence
The Death of Aedolyn Aedolyn was dead and all was quiet. The Fifth Age ended with a bang and took everything that was Aedolyn with it. What was left were the remnants of what used to be which would haunt the few survivors forever.
After the Fifth Age, Aratar had taken over much of what was left of the Nívak and Bavkür Deserts and began threatening the mountain regions along their borders. The dark clouds pushed outward threatening the rest of Aedolyn with darkness. Zal’Garish had survived only though the love of Sephria whereas Svaalgor Keep had been destroyed pushing its inhabitants into the mountains. The Telgin Republic had been abandoned and the once-great capital of Edorâs was now a ghost city, untouched by war. The Angard Mountains were plagued by disorder; the regions outside the gates of Gávalik were no longer safe and were now a wilderness of vengeance ruled by orc and dwarf clan leaders who sought only territory and revenge. The Mirodo Forest remained protected by the Veil of Mirodo but the woods were quiet and brooding outside of the few small surviving cities. Across the lands of Bäros people lived the lives of nomads as in Galstrom, but few would ever settle since the blood-soaked land was no longer arable after the Sylinian Carnage. Outside of that region, farms existed, but life was tough. Most of the Bärans lived in what was left of Triam or in the northwest portion of the Nâvirfëll Woodland. The northeast of Nâvirfëll had become marshland after the damming of the L’iorma River, and the once-great city of Illúvëa had become a massive necropolis, a deadly maze of crumbling walls, half-collapsed spires, and roofless shells of buildings. The Illycia Darkwood continued to slowly die away, but Taldëon flourished as a place for refugees to start over, but it was a constant struggle to keep the Undead out. Galstrom continued fighting as always as they slowly ripped apart their own homeland. Haar and Dák’mitorë were no longer safe and were ruled over by a constantly changing tribal leadership. Finally, the goblins in Maelar controlled the most bustling cities in Aedolyn of Bargriv and Asglarek which thrived on controlling all trade; many flock here only to escape the silence that had fallen over Aedolyn.
Fluctuation of Time Something happened when Sephria destroyed Sharrum Gate. She threw off the balance that the Gates had sustained and, in doing so, she unknowingly altered the fabric of time. This transformed each of the remaining four Gates into Portals to the Past. This was slowly discovered by the people of Aedolyn, but after it was, the popularity of it spread like wildfire. From all over, people would travel back in time to escape the mundaneness of their lives in the Sixth Age and to relive the dense history of Aedolyn. Some view this as a gift, others as a curse but nevertheless, it was used frequently. Time travel brought a sliver a life back to Aedolyn, but this life was deceivingly fake. It, along with magic, captivated mortals and sparked greed. However, hope for Aedolyn remained. It was a common (and true) conception, that if the remaining four gates were destroyed, then Aedolyn would recover and witness another age of peace, the fabled Seventh Age: Age of Reconciliation. This Seventh Age Theory spread far and became quite popular. The critics of it, however, still remain a majority, for destroying the Gates would not only eliminate time travel, but it would mean the end of magic as well. Therefore, many are opposed. Movements have sprung up for both sides, and they actively campaign across Aedolyn as well as act in their interests. The Gates are always at risk but are constantly being protected as well.
Faeries and Goblins Amid the subdued happenings of the Sixth Age there is a simmering conflict between the Faeries and Draconi and the Goblins. The Faeries were put on the face of Aedolyn to protect the Gates with their superior magic capabilities and the Draconi, after failing to protect the Gates during the Third Age, assist them as their muscle. The Goblins, on the other hand, are dedicated to destroying the Gates and promoting the Seventh Age Theory. This causes much controversy across the entirety of Aedolyn. It is against the Goblins that the Faerie Legions are protecting the Gates, along with other no-good individuals. The Goblins who actively seek the destruction of the Gates tend to join the overarching cause and they refer to themselves as the Goblin Horde. They travel in haphazardly organized clans or units across the many terrains of Aedolyn seeking out Faeries or Draconi to challenge, being the slipshod individuals that they are. Unfortunately for the Faeries, there are many more Goblins than there are Faeries so they tend to rely heavily on the Draconi for assistance. The skirmishes are always very short since the Goblins have no shame in retreating at the first sign of loss, and they also enjoy quick surprise attacks.
To break it down, there are the Faerie Legions, the Draconian Knights, and the Goblin Horde, all three clashing over the Gates.
